Juneteenth is a holiday that we celebrate on the 19th of June. The Juneteenth celebrates the freedom of enslaved people in the United States at the end of the Civil War. It is the oldest known holiday that commorates the end of slavery in the U.S. Some cities and groups have Juneteenth contests. Juneteeth was first celebrated June 19, 1865. Most African American people celebrate it by barbecuing, story telling by elders, celebrating black art and music, festivals, fishing, or even baseball. A lot of things changed over the years with celebrating it. Some people don’t even celebrate it but a lot of us do.
I celebrated by watching old slavery movies or talking about it with my mom.
